Born to pianist parents in Eastern Europe, Margarita Pinkosz began her musical training at the age of four. She attended the prestigious Nikolai Lysenko National School of Music in Kiev, Ukraine, followed by the Karol Szymanowski School of Music in Warsaw, Poland. By the age of six, she had already made her debut with the National Symphony in Warsaw, and by eleven, she won First Prize in two categories at a competition in Brittany, France.
Over the years, Margarita has earned top honors in more than a dozen international piano competitions including the Grand Concours Madeleine de Valmalete (Paris), International Piano Competition in Kosice (Slovakia), North International Music Competition, Grand Metropolitan International Music Competition, and more. In 2020, she was honored to serve as a judge in the Juliusz Zarebski International Music Competition (chamber music category).
Her academic achievements include a B.A. and M.A. in Piano Performance and Chamber Music from the Paris Conservatory and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She also holds a Master’s in Early Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied under Dr. Corey Jamason.
Margarita’s time in Belgium marked a pivotal shift in her musical focus, deepening her interest in contemporary classical music. She collaborated with celebrated composers like Victor Kissine, Hao-Fu Zhang, and Michel Lysight, and formed her own contemporary ensemble. In recent years, she completed a creative residency at Project Artaud in San Francisco, premiering new works for solo piano and multimedia improvisation—including collaborations with poet Hope C. Lundblad and Eastern sound instruments.
As an educator, Margarita runs a vibrant piano studio in San Francisco, where she integrates improvisation and composition into her teaching alongside classical technique. She also serves on the faculty of Ecole Notre Dame des Victoires and holds a leadership position as Director-at-Large in the Kensington Orchestra. Her deep commitment to both tradition and innovation continues to shape her dynamic career in performance, education, and creative exploration.
